what? fluorescent lighting? Sir, yes Sir! :)

Today I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful couple for a pinning ceremony.  I will admit, I was pretty nervous.  First, it was indoors, Second, it was in a military office building.  I'm not sure how many of you have been inside a military facility but lets just say the lighting leaves much to be desired.  Tiny windows and row after row of  fluorescent lighting.  I thought to myself, it's ok.  I got this!
So I get there a tad early, run some test shots, look at my histogram, change my settings, and I'm ready.  The ceremony starts, and I decide no flash.  Turn it off and start shooting.  Totally on the fly.  I am so lucky I turned that dang flash off!  The first few pictures I caught with the flash were very shadowy and harsh!

Things I learned today
1.  Go with it.  What is the worse that can happen?  Pictures don't come out, oh well.  (haha not really, but it is nice to think that)
2. Go with your GUT! Not using a flash indoors goes against everything I know.
3. Fixed lens are great!  In small places where you can get close, zoom with your feet!  Pictures will come out better!
